What the bench fixes — and what we don’t.

Every job is diagnosed before any work begins. The bench inspects the machine, reads the symptoms, and only then quotes a price. If the answer is "not a candidate", we say so straight — no charge for the look-over that gets us there.

We're an independent repair shop, not an AASP, not an enterprise MSP. That keeps the work honest and the overhead out of the quote. The pages below spell out what fits the bench and what doesn't.

Free look-over. No charge for the "no".

Common services

The repairs and installs the bench gets called for most.

Hands-on repair work on the hardware you already own, plus the IT install work that ties a home or small-office network together. If it isn't on this list, ask — most days the answer is "yes, drop it off".

Computer repair

Hardware, software, and the upgrade that saves the box
  • Custom PC builds

Gaming rigs, photo and video editing workstations, and home-office boxes sized to the actual workload — not the one-size-fits-all build the big-box store wants to sell you.

  • SSD and RAM upgrades

The upgrade that turns the laptop on your desk into a usable machine again. Cloned drives, capacity bumps, and the kind of fitment work that the manufacturer counts on you giving up on.

  • OS reinstalls and software resets

Clean Windows install with a real data migration, or a same-day wipe-and-reload on a sluggish machine. Drivers installed, bloatware stripped, and the apps you actually use wired back up.

  • Virus and malware cleanup

The cleanup on a machine that came back from a sketchy download. Browser hijackers, ransomware drops, pop-up scammy anti-virus layers — gone, with a follow-up posture guide so they don’t come back next week.

  • Software troubleshooting & installation

OS reinstalls, driver rebuilds, and the “why is my laptop doing this” triage that the big-box store won’t queue behind a screen swap. New productivity suites and creative tools cleanly installed and licensed — no bloatware, no third-party “deals” bolted on. Small-business software work, family-PC tune-ups, and the “I just need it to work” setup.

  • Thermal service and deep clean

Three summers of dust blown out, thermal paste redone where the cooler tolerates it, fans brought back to spec. The kind of service the manufacturer charges more than the machine is worth to perform.

  • Data transfer and recovery

Old drive to new drive on a clean upgrade; recovered data handed back on your own external when the storage on the machine is still healthy. Service-level honesty on what we can and can’t pull back.

IT support

Home and small-office networking, the bench way
  • Home-network cleanups

Mesh installs, dead-zone coverage, ISP hardware swaps, and the wiring runs that the installer wasn’t going to do for free. The bench leaves you with a network you understand, not a black box.

  • Small-business networking

Three-seat shops up to maybe twenty-five — switches, Wi-Fi, file share, printer mapping, and the day-of-day stuff that gets a small office past the “why is it slow today” phase.

  • On-site visit within the local radius

For the jobs that need a body at the desk. Cabling runs, hardware swaps that can’t travel, and the install work that’s faster when the bench shows up with a toolbox.

  • Remote triage by phone or email

Outside the radius? Most issues triage in fifteen minutes over email with screenshots — and we tell you what the actual cost is before anything billable starts.

What a computer repair looks like

Diagnosis first, written quote, same hands.

No magic, no chain-store script. A bench computer repair is exactly what the warranty covers — and exactly what you signed off on before the work started.

The machine starts on the bench before any work begins. We run a real diagnostic — not just a POST screen, but the same workloads you actually use the machine for — and we capture it in the quote email.

Parts are sourced honestly. SSDs and RAM are name-brand from the supply chain we trust; proprietary repairs follow the manufacturer's spec. We tell you what we're putting in before the soldering iron warms up.

For data work, you handle the backup before the machine leaves you. We will refuse to start a drive swap on an un-backed-up machine — we'd rather lose the sale than lose the data. Data recovery is service-level honest: we tell you what we can and can't pull before quoting.

On the way out you get a one-year bench warranty on the work — pickup, mail-in, or on-site handoff, same warranty either way. We do not promise OEM-equivalent certifications or manufacturer warranty repair. What we do is honest bench work with a real person at the counter.

When the answer is "no"

What the bench turns away.

The bench says no to more jobs than it accepts. Half the time the customer is grateful for the honesty. Here's what gets a job turned away.

  • Board-level micro-soldering on phones

We focus on the modular repairs we can do right — phone screens, batteries, charge ports. iPhone mainboard or soldered chip work goes to a specialist shop we can name.

  • Apple-authorized warranty work

We’re an independent bench, not an AASP. Out-of-warranty repairs, third-party upgrades, and aftermarket parts are our lane — manufacturer-warranty claims stay with the manufacturer.

  • Enterprise 50-seat+ rollouts

Multi-site enterprise rollouts, MDM, and regulated-industry hardening are a different kind of engagement. We can refer you to a partner we trust; we don’t take that work in-house.

  • On-site work outside the local radius

We cover the local area for on-site visits. Out-of-radius on-site jobs go to phone-based remote triage or mail-in — same hands, no trip charge.

How a repair gets done

Drop it off, look it over, repair it, take it home.

Same flow whether the machine walks in or ships to the bench. Same hands answer the email before, during, and after the work.

  1. Step 01

Bring it in or email a description

Drop the machine at the bench, or send a one-paragraph description with a couple of photos. Same-day email reply with a ticket ID so you can follow up without re-explaining.

  2. Step 02

    Free bench diagnosis

No-charge look-over. You get a written quote — parts, labor, realistic turnaround — before any work starts. If the answer is “not a candidate”, we say so straight.

  3. Step 03

Repair or install at the bench

OEM-grade parts where it matters, work done by the same hands answering your email. Diagnostics tested on real workloads, not just a POST screen.

  4. Step 04

    Pickup, mail-out, or on-site handoff

You take it home, we ship it back ground-rate, or we come set it up in place. Same 1-year bench warranty either way — pickup, mail-in, or on-site.

Pricing

$50 – $400+ for computer work, $90 – $300+ for IT.

Final quote is after the bench diagnosis. The look-over itself is free — no charge for the answer.

Computer repair

$50 – $400+
Sized by the part actually installed and the labor actually spent. A clean OS reinstall lands near the low end; a custom build or an SSD-and-RAM upgrade with data migration sits higher.

IT support

$90 – $300+
Home-network cleanups and mesh installs land near the low end; an on-site visit with cabling runs and a multi-day small-business install sits above it.
