Mail-in lithium battery rebuilds

Mail-in lithium battery rebuilds — shipped ground-rate, rebuilt at the bench.

Lithium battery packs cannot be shipped by air — ground shipping (USPS Ground or UPS Ground) is the only method the carriers will accept, in either direction. Pack the pack, label it ground, ship it to the bench at the address below, and the same hands rebuild it cell-by-cell for DeWalt, Milwaukee, Makita, Ryobi, Bosch, Ridgid, Craftsman, and the older cordless-tool families the manufacturer stopped supporting.

On the bench
Same warranty. Same bench. Same hands.
The mail-in rebuild is the same cell-by-cell work as the drop-off rebuild — just with a cardboard box in between.
New name-brand cells, spot-welded leads.
BMS / protector checked where present.
USPS Ground or UPS Ground only — both directions.
Pack it well, label it ground, ship it to the bench.

Ground shipping only

Lithium packs cannot ship by air. USPS Ground or UPS Ground, in either direction.

Air and expedited services are hazmat-rejected by USPS and UPS — no Priority Mail, no First-Class, no 2nd Day Air, no Next Day Saver. The only services that will tender a lithium pack are USPS Ground (Parcel Select / Ground Advantage) and UPS Ground.

Read this first

Not every pack is a candidate for rebuilding.

Every pack is inspected before any work begins. We open it, read the cells, check the BMS or protector where one exists, and only then quote a price.

We turn some away. A physically swollen housing, a missing protection board we can't source, a cracked shell that won't go back together — those are "no" answers, and we give them to you for free during the look-over.

We do not claim OEM-equivalent safety, capacity, or compatibility.

The rebuilt pack is a service part, not a manufacturer replacement. New cells and fresh leads, but the original BMS and housing stay on the bench if they check out. Performance and cycle life depend on the cells we install and how the pack is used after it leaves us.

How to pack the pack

Three things: tape the terminals, pad the interior, put it in a rigid box.

The bench unpacks every mail-in on camera. Packs that arrive in a jiffy bag with bare terminals get a new box and a return shipping label — at the sender's expense. Pack it right the first time and it ships fine.

  • Protect exposed terminals

Electrical tape over both terminals, no conductive contact between them. Never tape up a swollen pack — swollen packs are hazardous waste, not a mail-in.

  • Padded interior

Bubble wrap on all sides of the pack, with filler so nothing shifts in the box. The wrapped pack should not move at all when you shake the box.

  • Rigid outer box

Double-walled corrugated cardboard, snug around the wrapped pack. No shipping envelopes, no Flat Rate boxes — those are air-eligible services.

What to ship

The pack, your contact info, and a one-paragraph note.

Three things go in the box. Photos ideally go in the inbox before the box ships — the bench can start the look-over the moment the photos arrive.

  • The pack itself

With terminals taped. No charger, no spare tools — just the pack.

  • Your name, return address, email, and phone

Printed inside the box AND on the shipping label. We need both — paper inside in case the label comes off, the label so the carrier can route the return.

  • One short note

The tool model number (printed on the pack label), the symptom in a sentence or two, and any history worth knowing — was it dropped, stored in a hot truck, left on the charger overnight.

Photos ideally go to [email protected] ahead of the box — the look-over can start before the pack arrives.

Accepted carriers

USPS Ground or UPS Ground. Nothing else.

Both carriers reject air-segmented service for standalone lithium battery shipments. The two services below are the ones that will actually tender a pack — everything else comes back to the sender.

Accepted carrier
USPS Ground
Parcel Select Ground or Ground Advantage only. No Priority Mail (air), no First-Class (air) — those services will be rejected the moment the label scans a hazmat-flagged lithium pack.

Air and expedited services are hazmat-rejected by USPS, in either direction.

Accepted carrier
UPS Ground
The only UPS service accepted for lithium packs. No 2nd Day Air, no Next Day Air Saver, no 3 Day Select — those are air-segmented and will not tender a lithium shipment.

Air and expedited services are hazmat-rejected by UPS, in either direction.

Where to ship it

The bench's mailing address.

Print this inside the box and on the shipping label. Mark the box Attn: Mail-in battery rebuild so the box finds the bench instead of getting routed to voicemail.

Local customers can skip the box entirely — drop the pack off in person during bench hours at the same address. See hours & contact info →

Ballpark turnaround

1–2 weeks from inspection. Window quoted up front.

The bench quotes a turnaround window in writing before any work starts — the window is not a guess, it is the same estimate we'd give you at the counter.

Turnaround
Most packs: 1–2 weeks from inspection

Cell family, parts stock, and the current bench queue dictate the actual number — every quote includes a window in writing, and we do not start the work until you approve it. Unusual cell families and back-ordered parts can run longer; we say so up front.

How a mail-in flow gets done

Five steps from box on the bench to box back at the door.

Same hands answer the email before, during, and after the work. The pack never leaves Enid while it is on the bench.

  1. Step 01

    Pack the pack

Both terminals taped, padded interior, rigid outer box. Sponge liner or bubble wrap on all sides — nothing shifts when you shake the box.

  2. Step 02

    Label it ground

USPS Ground (Parcel Select / Ground Advantage) or UPS Ground only. Air-labeled shipments will be returned at sender expense by the carrier.

  3. Step 03

    Ship to the bench

Mail it to the address below. Add your return address, email, phone, and a short note about the tool & symptom inside the box.

  4. Step 04

    Inspection + written quote

Free look-over. Same process as a drop-off — open the pack, read the cells, check the protector, then send you a written quote with a turnaround window.

  5. Step 05

    Rebuild + ground-rate return

New cells, fresh leads, basic capacity test. Return shipping billed at the bench's actual ground-rate label cost. Same one-year bench warranty as a local drop-off.
